The Jaboticaba is a Unique Name for a Unique Bonsai

January 18th, 2010 by admin

Some indoor bonsai trees look very similar to each other, even though they may be different species. However, the Jaboticaba is certainly not like any other bonsai. In fact, you may find it’s the perfect gift for the bonsai collector that seems to have it all. The Jaboticaba, or Eugenia caulifora, is native to Brazil and is a part of the Myrtle family of trees. It’s also related to the Guava. The bonsai, as expected from the name “caulifora,” is also similar to cauliflower and Brussels’ sprouts in the way it grows. It bears fruits and flowers on its trunk and on the mature branches. These small white flowers covered almost all of the tree, including the branches and trunk. These flowers will then turn into dark berries that are edible. The bark also sometimes peels off as the branches expand.

As you can tell, this bonsai is very different and special. However, like any indoor bonsai, it is still vulnerable to several things. A quick word on Bonsai CareIt must be kept moist, and there must be plenty of airflow around the bonsai. If you don’t keep an eye on your bonsai, you may see it falter due to an issue that only suddenly becomes apparent.
